Halep is being called in as a reinforcement for the World Tennis League exhibition
The World Tennis League, a mixed exhibition held in Abu Dhabi, announced this Saturday a flurry of withdrawals just days before the event (December 19-22).
Among the men, Daniil Medvedev, Hubert Hurkacz, and Taylor Fritz, who were initially announced by the organizers, have decided to withdraw from the event.
They will be replaced by Denis Shapovalov, Jordan Thompson, and Alexander Shevchenko.
For the women, Simona Halep, who has spoken extensively about the doping cases of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek in recent weeks, will replace Barbora Krejcikova.
A reminder that the World Tennis League brings together four teams (Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, and Kites) featuring several stars from the ATP and WTA circuits like Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Nick Kyrgios, and Caroline Garcia.
